The first thing you should know about Larissa Johnson is that she's sunshine and rainbows personified. She's bursting with contagious enthusiasm, and has the bubbliest personality and brightest spirit! So when she came to me in need of a brand and website I knew I was in for a fun (and colorful!) project.
Larissa is multi-talented and multi-passionate, so she had many different services and skills she wanted to offer. She’s a dance and fitness instructor, certified in laughter yoga, a skilled public speaker, and even reads books to kids in her spare time under a sub-brand, Rissy's Room. But above all, she educates communities on clean energy and is a leader within the Climate Movement in Maryland.
Soooo...how to put all of these things under one brand umbrella? We settled on making this a personal brand all about energy—with Larissa as the "Edutainer" (because she illuminates important topics in a fun, entertaining way!).
Larissa is the face of the brand, and her services all revolve around the power of energy: from clean and renewable energy, to the energy related to movement, to the power of positive thinking. Under this theme, we were able to tie her multiple services together.
We started with the Brand Discovery phase where Larissa pinned her heart out with this rainbow explosion of a mood board (below). I believe the key to making any brand look clean and modern is lots of white space. Although this mood board is downright kaleidoscopic, we balanced the look of her branding by using a lot of white space between the crayola-colorful elements.
I had so much fun working with Larissa and think we hit the nail on the head with her branding and multi-purpose website. If you're looking to cultivate good, clean energy—whether through movement, laughter, education, or reading—Larissa is your girl!
Here's a peek at her multicolored mood board and branding:
And a quick Q&A interview with Larissa about the process!
What do you do?
I am an EDUTAINER!! I educate people in an entertaining way about all things energy related from laughter to movement to electricity!
Why did you want a new brand and website?
I wanted a place where I could showcase all of the things I do and make sure that everything had a cohesive, concise message (and brand).
What was your favorite part of the branding and/or web design process?
My favorite part was picking out the elements of my personality that I wanted to highlight - going through Pinterest and choosing images that I thought captured the essence of who I am. I absolutely loved collaborating and working with Jenna - it was such an amazing process!
What was the most challenging part of the branding and/or web design process?
Oh geez, the most challenging part was figuring out exactly what it is I do - I think everything is interconnected and related, but sometimes to the outside world my hobbies and passions may seem disparate. But they ARE related and Jenna really helped me focus on what I was trying to do and say.
How did you feel before we started working together?
I was super overwhelmed - I have to admit this is something I thought about for years - in fact, I have owned my domain name since 2003 and it has just sat idle for way too long. But working with Jenna literally assuaged all of my fears!
How do you feel now that your site is launched?
I am absolutely IN LOVE with every aspect of my website!!! Words cannot express how excited I am to share my passions with the world now that it is in one place and it all makes sense!
Did we achieve the look and feel you were going for?
Did we? I mean COME ON!!! - As the kids say nowadays - you "nailed it!" But really this was 1000% spot on - I couldn't have imagined it any more perfect.
What's your favorite part of your new brand or website?
The colors. The layout. The pictures. The structure. The brand - EVERYTHING!!! I love, love, love it!
What are the next steps for your business?
Taking this live!!! You know, booking some engagements and spreading my love of movement, reading, and good energy through fitness, dance classes, speaking events, and read-alouds!!! You name it, I will be doing it!
